Accessing data using ADO.net

ADO.net is a abrevation for ActiveX Data Objects for .NET. ActiveX data objects is the data access component of microsoft used in software before there was .NET. ADO.net now adays has evoluted that mucht that there is no resemblance anymore.

ADO.net is a data access component of .NET which allows you to easily access SQL-server, Xml or ODBC compliant databases.

Key feature of ADO.net is the disconnected approach for workign with data. In the early days ( before .NET ) data was manipulated on SQL-server with an open connection to the database. Because of the multi-tier architecture of the applciations nowadays ADO.net let you access and manipulate data in a disconnected manner!
